“儘管”的英文表達有5種方式，它們分別是“ Though、Although、Even though、Despite、In spite of”。它們的意思相似，都用於兩種事物之間的對比，中文都有“儘管”的意思。
這5個詞容易混淆，搞清楚它們的用法非常有必要。我們將“ Though、Although、Even though”放在一起討論，將“ Despite、 In spite of”放在一起討論。
一、 “Despite” 與 “In spite of”的用法
“ Despite”與“ In spite of”這兩個詞都有“儘管”的意思，主要用於書面語中，“ Despite”比“ In spite of”更正式一些。它們都是介詞短語，都可以用在句子的開頭或中間，在句子結構中的用法是一致的。
1、 “Despite/ In spite of + 名詞”的表達
“Despite、 In spite of ”後面可跟名詞。例如：
We enjoyed our trip in spite of the rain。 儘管下雨，我們還是玩得很開心。
Despite the pain in his leg he finished the race。 儘管腿痛，他還是完成了比賽。
2、“ Despite/ In spite of + 動名詞”的表達
“Despite、 In spite of ”後面可跟動名詞。例如：
Despite having all the necessary qualifications， they didn‘t offer me the job。 儘管具備了所有必要的條件，他們還是沒有給我這份工作。
In spite of my warnings， he kept on smoking。 他不顧我的警告，繼續抽菸。
3、“ Despite/ In spite of + the fact that”的表達
“ Despite”與“ In spite of”後面不能直接跟從句，如果要跟從句的話，必須在“ Despite”與“ In spite of”後面加上“the fact”。例如：
Despite the fact that it was raining， the football team continued their training session。 儘管天在下雨，足球隊仍然繼續訓練。
In spite of the fact that he worked very hard， he didn’t pass the exam。 儘管他學習很努力，他還是沒有透過考試。
總結: “ Despite”除了比“ In spite of”更正式以外，在句子結構中的用法完全一樣，它們之間可以互換。
二、“ Although”與“ Though、 Even though”的用法
“
Although、Though、 Even though”這三個詞都是連詞，在兩種事物的對比中起連線作用，中文都有“儘管”的意思。與“ Despite/in spite of”相比，它們在口語中使用較多。“ Though”比“ Although”在口語中更常見，當我們想要強調兩種事物之間形成的對比時，我們用“Even though“。
1、“ Although”與“ Though、 Even though”放在句子開頭時，這時從句出現在主句之前，從句後面要加一個逗號。例如:
Although he has lived in an English-speaking country for many years， he still doesn‘t speak English。 儘管他在英語國家生活了很多年，但他還是不會說英語。
Though there wasn’t much time， we managed to finish our work on time。 雖然時間不夠多，我們還是設法按時完成的工作。
Even though you told me ten times， I still forgot。 儘管你告訴我10次，我還是忘了。

“ Although”與“ Though、 Even though”放在句子中間時，這時主句在前面，主句後面不需要加逗號。例如：
He was very energetic although he was old。 儘管他老了，他還是充滿活力。
I still feel hungry even though I had a big lunch。 儘管我吃了一頓豐盛的午餐，我還是感到餓了。
3、“ Although、 Though、 Even though”都可以放在句子的開頭和中間，但是“ Though”還可以放在句子的結尾，作副詞用，相當於“However”，中文為“不過、不管怎樣、無論如何”。例如：
A： That‘s a lot of money for a ring。 買一枚戒指要花很多錢。
B： It’s totally worth it， though。 不過，完全值得。
4、“ Although”與“ Though、 Even though.”引導的從句可以簡化。
當“Although、Though、 Even though”引導的從句放在前面，從句的主語和主句的主語一致時，我們可以省略從句的主語和助動詞，簡化從句使句子更簡潔。例如:
Although she didn‘t want to go， she went to work。儘管她不想去，她還是去上班了。
可以簡化為： Although not wanting to go， she went to work。
Though the new machine is more expensive， it is safer and more efficient。 儘管這個新機器更昂貴，但是它更安全更有效。
可以簡化為： Though more expensive， the new machine is safer and more efficient。
